Development Completed

For those many who showed their interest during the past months in this unique technological project, we are proud to announce that the Factory Testing of the GasCal Calibration Management System (CMS) has been successfully completed last week, and fully complies with all measurement, control and operational requirements as laid down in the Functional Design Specifications. The system is ready for operation on-site!

"We always have been confident from the start of the project that we were able to meet the demanding requirements of the CMS in terms of data acquisition performance with its needs for unrivaled low uncertainty and comprehensive system functionality, because we were able to use our own Flow-X technology as well as our eXLerate visualization and control software platform, and as technology partners of NMi we delivered what we have promised", said Harry Kok, CEO of Spirit IT.

The revolutionary new Flow-X measurement technology proves its innovative concept and delivers its state-of-the-art capabilities to the control system of the calibration facility, which requires cutting-edge measurement performance normally not needed for a custody transfer flow computer. The fact that we were able to deliver this state-of-the-art performance using our standard flow computers illustrates the power of the Flow-X platform.

For those who are relatively new to the subject: the NMi test system is located at the Botlek Rotterdam area and is the world's largest test facility for gas meters. Spirit IT is a technology partner for NMi, with our Calibration Management System which takes care of automated calibration of gas meters and the accompanying certification. The system measures many signals with highest available accuracy while offering the operators an automation and control system which allows for maximum accuracy, flexibility, tracebility and is ready for its daily usage.

Spirit IT has relevant experience with complex measurement- and calibration systems and has delivered many large measurement and control systems for international oil and gas companies worldwide in recent years, and this expertise helped us to design the CMS such that the result is a system to be proud of.

Signal processing

The ability of our Flow-X to measure input signals from gas meters with such low uncertainty is made possible through the usage of modern FPGA technology - powerful, programmable hardware rather than traditional digital circuitry, in combination with an extremely stable (2 ppm) time base and smart software.

With Flow-X we can easily utilize this technology for other applications, such as liquid provers that outperform existing prover flow computers in terms of uncertainty but also in flexibility. Per flow module we can process multiple prover inputs, each with both 64-bit high speed counters as well as precise pulse interpolations. Such prover technology is available in our standard flow computer firmware. We expect to use our Flow-X in many different prover applications, such as mobile provers, traditional pipe provers, as well as in master meter prover applications.
