Flow-X/R: Rack Mounted Flow Computers

In multi-stream systems where a central operator interface, such as a supervisory computer or DCS are used, a local touch-screen may not be required as most operator information of a metering stream is already available at the higher level.

Therefore single stream flow modules may be combined in a 19” rack into compact multi-stream systems: Flow-X/R.

A Flow-X/R enclosure can be used in a 19" rack to accomodate up to 8 metering streams. Rack enclosures are connected to a redundant 24VDC external power supply, and per metering stream module a separate ethernet interface is available.

Since each Flow-X/M flow module is equipped with a dual Ethernet device, dual redundant multi-stream applications can be easily created in a system with standard IT network switches.

Support is available for both single and redundant metering stream applications. Each multi-stream application is individually configured with the spreadsheet-based configuration software.

A remote web interface is available for each individual flow computer module with which the flow computer can be fully operated as if connected to locally.

Literally, from on-shore, an off-shore installed metering system can be both viewed safely by operating personnel, and additionally safely managed by metering engineers, all under the strict and secure WELMEC 7.2 software guidelines.

Field connections are made utilizing standard Phoenix-type connectors for screw terminal blocks in a separate marshalling section or cabinet.

Using Flow-X/R solutions, multi-stream applications can be created which are highly cost-effective, including for larger amounts of streams, where each stream is based on a metrology approval.

When used with eXLerate based metering supervisory systems, combinations can be made with Flow-X/R racks where virtual flow computers (VFC's) running on the supervisory systems can form a redundant partner with the Flow-X/M stream module counter parts.

In the sample illustration at the right, sixteen (16) metering streams are combined with a redundant supervisory computer system, a shared 17" monitor and keyboard in a single 19" sized cabinet of 800mm x 800mm x 2000mm.

Such compact systems are an ideal solution for offshore platforms where physical rack space is hard to find.
